D-Day

John P Zaro

June 6th, 1917 – December 11,1983

My father was part of the Greatest Generation. He was a merchant marine, shuttling troops and material across the Chanel to the Normandie beaches in defenseless merchant ships. He was 27 on the day, his birthday. This was the same age I got into the investment business in 1984. I could have used some encouragement and mentoring during that time. But he was gone by then.

I have become a history buff over the years and feel I missed the opportunity to learn how that day unfolded for him, but many veterans didn’t talk about their experience then. In more recent years, I visited Normandie and experienced the moving emotion on those beaches and cemeteries.

Let’s keep memories of these young men and women alive and thriving for decades to come.
